Més enllà de les discrepàncies i el seu distanciament, la realitat és que tant Gulda com Schiff han deixat petjada en el seu pas per la música de l'últim segle. Recordo l'única ocasió en que he pogut escoltar a Heinrich Schiff en directe. Va ser a la Kronberg Academy. El tenia davant, a un metre, en un petit escenari oferint un recital amb piano. De totes les bèsties que aquell cap de setmana s'havien citat a la ciutat dormitori de Kronberg, cap va arribar a desafinar i brutejar més. Tot i així, mai, ni en aquella fita en què vaig poder escoltar tots els grans, he sentit un talent tant exuberant i descarat amb el cello. És una explosió, un castell de focs d'artifici! De Gulda en parlarem en una altra ocasió... aquest any, al festival, tenim preparada una petita sorpresa relacionada amb el pianista austríac.
